Holy Mole!

Holy Mole! The first one is ready. How exciting is it to pick a 9″ pepper? I’t as long as the zucchini.

And did I mention zucchini? We thought that the plant was going to be mostly done since they’re supposed to produce between 3-5 pounds of zucchini. We’d already picked about 7 pounds this year and the leaves were getting limp. Oh no….we were totally wrong. Once again in what seemed like 2-3 days – 2 full grown zucchini, plus another 3-4 coming. Yay!

We picked the yellow bell early (you can see its still mostly green). One of the nodes on the bottom had gotten bruised and was rotting. So – we figured we’d better pick it and eat the good parts!

More zinnias too. These are pretty long lasting as the first one is still pretty after a week or more.

You can also see that the cilantro is gone. It was ready to go and I’m super happy we had it so long. Tucked behind the zinnias are the cayenne peppers. These are looking wonderful too – can’t wait until they’re red!

The large view of the huge tomato plants. I’ve been told that ripe tomatoes are unusual here in the Upstate before July 4, so another week and a half and I’ll be ready for a BLT!

In the Beginning

vegetables

Welcome! Follow along with me as I try gardening for the first time! My grandfather and mother are both amazing gardeners who could grow anything. Grapefruit, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, peppers, avocados, flowers, figs, mangoes, papayas – nothing seemed to wither on the vine.

Then there is me.  I’ve never had success with plants, but that is going to change this summer!  The picture above is what I see in my mind. I’m hoping that my kitchen counter will look like this. (OK, not the mushrooms, but you get the idea).

I intend to detail the journey here on a weekly basis. We’ll have to wait to see how my garden grows. Hope you stick around!
