After waiting three months, we have our first beefsteak type tomatoes of the summer and they’re beautiful!
That’s two Mr. Stripey and one Hillbilly, I think. These two plants grew so close/entangled that I can’t really tell which is which! Each weighs about a pound and a half and has lovely shading.
They made absolutely lovely tomato bruschetta sandwiches with garden basil and a bit of mozzarella! You can see we got out the fancy china for this.
Now for the trouble….we have squash beetle larvae. Little yellow furry critters that I am removing by hand and putting in water to drown them. I felt bad, but they’re chewing up the zucchini leaves!
I’m hoping that by killing them on a one by one basis, I can keep the plant going. I hate to be a murderer, but anything eating our squash is fair game!
