It’s Labor Day and officially the end of summer. All seersucker wardrobe items and white shoes are put away. Don’t tell the butterflies, though!
They’re loving the zinnias! We’ve had a few other visitors over the past week too – a few ruby throated hummingbirds have been visiting the zinnias, a goldfinch chowed down on the sunflower seeds (glad I didn’t pull them out before he had breakfast!) and this little guy stopped by

That’s a tomato hornworm covered with parasitic wasp larvae. Gads. They’re gone now.
We had our first German Johnsons! Two absolutely delicious tomatos that sliced up beautifully. I picked them a bit green and let them ripen inside so that they wouldn’t get eaten up by pests!
We’ve got two more German Johnsons on the way as well as some more Hillbilly and Mr Stripey. I thought they were done, but no! The Sungold cherry tomato continues to put out delicious golden beauties. Another 20+ this week! Here is today’s group along with a Silvery Fir Russian tomato.Some of the seeds have sprouted from two weeks ago – I see a few radish, broccoli, and kohlrabi. Some carrots and beets made it too. We’ll have to reseed some, and add the greens, lettuces, arugula next week. Check back for another update then!
