First, let me apologize for waiting so long between updates. It’s been almost six weeks since the last post. In the interim, I had emergency surgery and we had an astounding amount of rain. We were lucky here in the Upstate and “only” got 6″ of rain in three days. Our hearts go out to those in Columbia and on the coast who were literally inundated and suffered from disastrous floods.
I’m fine now and recuperating, but the garden is looking sketchy at best. Unfortunately, the combination of me not being able to get around with the never ending rain killed everything. Tomatoes were growing, but they’ve all got black rot spots on them. We did get some peppers, but they’re also looking pretty bad. Flowers were totally pushed over and the seeds that we planted so happily at Labor Day were washed out. So, the plan is to remove all of the summer plants this weekend and replant with greens and lettuces which should do ok in the cooler weather. We’re expecting lows in the 30’s this next week! Wish us luck!
