Once again, medical issues got in the way of gardening. After my surgery, my husband had a burst appendix and spent two weeks in the hospital. This fall just totally got away from us, but we’ve caught up a bit this weekend! On thanksgiving weekend, we have a lot to be thankful for!
I should have taken a photo of how this all looked before we cleaned it up, but I was so excited to actually get out and get it done, I totally forgot! Anyway – we’ve got all of the summer vegetable plants out and have a few cool weather plants coming up. As you can see, the rosemary is doing well and there is kohlrabi, sprouting broccoli and a swiss chard growing. Yay! We’ll have to see if they do well with the colder weather – we’ve had a few nights in the low 30’s and frost, but no freeze yet. If the kohlrabi makes it, it will look like this (thanks to GrowJourney for the photo and seeds!):
Once we had everything cleaned up, we wound up with three large trash bags of dead plants. The small pot with the tomato is now inside and another bag of compost is on the area where the tomatoes grew. I plan to plant leeks and have to see what else might grow through the winter. I think German Winter Thyme ought to work too.
So – first summer with the garden was definitely a success. Can’t wait to get going again for cool/cold weather season!
