Not Bunny Food

It’s Easter weekend, which means that I am seeing bunnies everywhere. Thankfully not in the garden, though! Update on the tender greens and the recent frost/freeze for those interested…2016-03-22 17.19.05

As you can see, everything made it!2016-03-22 17.19.11

You can see the one surviving fall kohlrabi is huge in comparison to everything else! So – funny thing happening in the Miner’s Lettuce square. I had two types of plants sprouting – 3 of one and 3 that looked completely different. Which to pull out?

I figured I’d wait a bit to see which were “weeds”. Then, while watering the other bed, I noticed that the Red Ursa Kale sprouting there looked suspiciously like one of the new sprouts in the Miner’s Lettuce square.

Mystery solved. This was the square that I’d planted in December and thought I’d lost to the freeze. Turns out a few of those kale seeds were just waiting for warmer weather! So – one square will be a mix. No worries!

A few more from this afternoon:

In the Beginning

Welcome! Follow along with me as I try gardening for the first time! My grandfather and mother are both amazing gardeners who could grow anything. Grapefruit, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, peppers, avocados, flowers, figs, mangoes, papayas – nothing seemed to wither on the vine.

Then there is me.  I’ve never had success with plants, but that is going to change this summer!  The picture above is what I see in my mind. I’m hoping that my kitchen counter will look like this. (OK, not the mushrooms, but you get the idea).

I intend to detail the journey here on a weekly basis. We’ll have to wait to see how my garden grows. Hope you stick around!
