Sorry it’s been so long without an update, but Earth Day and the weeks surrounding it are crazy time for the Education Staff at the Soil and Water Conservation District. So let’s get right to updates!
First, we have the main area of greens as seen above. Don’t they look yummy?
This is from April 13, so a few weeks ago. Keep in mind that I’ve been cutting off the salad greens from around the edges for over a month now. Interesting leaves this update – the below is Golden Frills Mustard. The greens actually taste really spicy/mustardy – almost like horseradish!
Next up, Dragon Tongue Mustard. Milder flavor, but absolutely stunning leaves.
Followed by Escarole. It finally sprouted about a week prior to this photo. It will be a while growing up.
More prettiness – Miner’s Lettuce – isn’t it really interesting? Not sure how big this one should be, though.
Mache – also known as lamb’s lettuce is another short growing variety.
And how about this Red Butterheart? Soft leaves and looks very delicate.
This is a little Buttergem Lettuce. The dark spots are actually variegation in the leaves – not soil!
And finally – beets! Have to be excited that they’re growing right up!
Stay tuned – big green harvest coming next along with the summer planting!
