Now that the greens are out, its time for tomatoes and peppers (and eggplants, tomatillos, zucchini – I can go on)… Here’s the finished product.
We did a little shopping at Country Boys and then some planting. First, let me tell you that if you’re looking for heirloom varieties and don’t want to grow from seedlings, Country Boys is your place. If you can grow from seeds, check out Grow Journey for heirloom, organic seeds. I’ve got a combination! We went the “already plants” route and bought most of the summer items. It allowed us to use the garden for greens in the spring and then turn right around and plant.
As you can see above, I trimmed off most of the growth on the lower end of the tomatoes and then planted them very deep. (see this post for more on this).
Two different types of cucumber in one of the large pots…
and a little zucchini in the other. Now on to the actual squares… here you can see the bottom right planter. This one isn’t changed. You can see leeks, chives, swiss chard, radishes, butter heart lettuce, miners lettuce, romaine and cilantro.
Below the top right bed… from top left – right – dahlia, beets, beets, dill, basil, parsnips, carrots and kohlrabi.
Left bed – bottom l-r – Gretel eggplant, Japanese long eggplant, tomatillo, jalepeno pepper, mache, Romesco broccoli, escarole, pimento pepper.
and top left bed l-r – Country Taste tomato, Sun Gold Cherry tomato, Roma tomato, Golden Jubilee tomato, Golden Frills mustard, lemon thyme and oregano sharing one square, spinach, peproncini pepper
The middle pot in the center still has sugar snaps and they’re getting ready!
Let’s see how these all grow. Next will be harvesting the rest of the greens in a week or so.
