OK – don’t go crazy! I’m talking about the cool weather leafy greens like mustard. It was past time to cut them down. I’m experimenting though…
The idea is to see if the mustard greens and kale grow more leaves in this very hot summer weather or if they just die back. I could probably Google it to see if it’ll work, but I’m going to just go crazy and give it a go. We’ll see and I’ll report back.
Now – on to other news….spaghetti squash is coming along! Yay! As I may have mentioned, the squash bugs made an appearance this year, but are getting pulled off and smashed with a trowel for their trouble. I keep telling them they could have stayed away, but Noooooo, the Delicata Squash was too much for them to miss out on. Sigh. Well, that’s gone now, so hopefully I’ll see the end of these soon. I have been keeping up with scraping their eggs off the bottom of the leaves.
The watermelons are growing too. Problem is that all but two withered away and turned brown. I’m thinking that we didn’t water deeply enough to keep them going. We’re disappointed, but it’s not a tragedy. Just a learning experience!
Tomatoes are coming in beautifully. Can’t wait to taste the first Mortgage Lifter!
That’s it for this week! Off to eat delicious mustard greens and swiss chard!
