You too can grow ginger at home.
Late fall/early winter 2021 I started to grow ginger as an experiment with store bought ginger that had some good eyes. It took off well and grew 6” shoots before the season got too cold.
In this video, I first plant store bought North Carolina locally grown ginger. The rhizomes I’m planting are what survived my late 2021 experiment. The other 4 varieties were acquired at Buford Highway Farmers Market in Atlanta:
- Costa Rican
- Peruvian
- Brazilian
- Chinese (found in my closet after the video was made)
Select ginger rhizomes with little eyes starting to form on the tips.
Soak your ginger rhizomes for a few hours. Plant the ginger just below the surface, not too deep.
