Giving Thanks

November 29, 2015 By lpilewski

Once again, medical issues got in the way of gardening. After my surgery, my husband had a burst appendix and spent two weeks in the hospital. This fall just totally got away from us, but we’ve caught up a bit this weekend! On thanksgiving weekend, we have a lot to be thankful for!

We Needed An Ark!

October 15, 2015 By lpilewski

First, let me apologize for waiting so long between updates. It’s been almost six weeks since the last post. In the interim, I had emergency surgery and we had an astounding amount of rain. We were lucky here in the Upstate and “only” got 6″ of rain in three days. Our hearts go out to those in Columbia and on the coast who were literally inundated and suffered from disastrous floods.

Not actually a photo of SC, but this is what it looked like for two weeks!

It’s Labor Day and officially the end of summer. All seersucker wardrobe items and white shoes are put away. Don’t tell the butterflies, though!2015-08-23 12.16.17

They’re loving the zinnias! We’ve had a few other visitors over the past week too…

Summer’s End

August 23, 2015 By lpilewski

Summer is officially over now that school is back in session and it seemed like the right time to clean up the garden and get the fall seeds planted.

Gone, But Not Forgotten!

August 9, 2015 By lpilewski

Time for a garden update after a week out of town. I had a work conference in Oklahoma for Project WET (check that out here) state coordinators. Worry not, though, Greg took care of the garden while I was gone! 2015-07-28 17.36.19

This is from the week of August 1. …

In the Beginning

vegetables

Welcome! Follow along with me as I try gardening for the first time! My grandfather and mother are both amazing gardeners who could grow anything. Grapefruit, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, peppers, avocados, flowers, figs, mangoes, papayas – nothing seemed to wither on the vine.

Then there is me.  I’ve never had success with plants, but that is going to change this summer!  The picture above is what I see in my mind. I’m hoping that my kitchen counter will look like this. (OK, not the mushrooms, but you get the idea).

I intend to detail the journey here on a weekly basis. We’ll have to wait to see how my garden grows. Hope you stick around!
