Let’s Go Again!

May 25, 2015 By lpilewski

Round two for the squares that were harvested as well as the addition of a new tomato! We wound up replacing 6 squares total – one each zinnia and marigold that didn’t grow,  and squares for the spinach, arugula, radish that were harvested. The final square was a replacement for failed oregano.

You’ll notice that most of these seeds are from GrowJourney. This is a seed of the month club right here in Greenville, SC. …

Pollinators and Pests

May 20, 2015 By lpilewski

A midweek report. Little white butterflies are pollinating the garden. They particularly like the brussel sprouts and the  tomatoes.

Still haven’t decided about the squash blossoms, but we surely do have a lot of them! The zucchini are growing really quickly as well. Better get ready for these!…

Salad Anyone?

May 15, 2015 By lpilewski

Could it be time to eat? Week 7 and we’re trying the first harvest from our garden! Radishes have grown and I took outside leaves from arugula, romaine, and nasturtium. I tried the radish greens, but didn’t care for the taste – too bitter. Take a look:

It’s Squash!

May 12, 2015 By lpilewski

Week 6 and the squash is growing! Underneath the prickly leaves grows a small zucchini. YAY!At the end is a squash blossom. I’ll have to research how to harvest these (or if I should). I think they’ll be great stuffed with cheese.

In the Beginning

vegetables

Welcome! Follow along with me as I try gardening for the first time! My grandfather and mother are both amazing gardeners who could grow anything. Grapefruit, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, peppers, avocados, flowers, figs, mangoes, papayas – nothing seemed to wither on the vine.

Then there is me.  I’ve never had success with plants, but that is going to change this summer!  The picture above is what I see in my mind. I’m hoping that my kitchen counter will look like this. (OK, not the mushrooms, but you get the idea).

I intend to detail the journey here on a weekly basis. We’ll have to wait to see how my garden grows. Hope you stick around!
