Dog Days of Summer Already?

June 13, 2016 By lpilewski

Wow is it hot! Heat index was 101 degrees yesterday, with a few more super-hot days on the way. I’m guessing the plants will be none too happy with this! Look at the zucchini wilting already!

April 10, 2016 By lpilewski

April is supposed to bring showers, but this week it brought freezing temperatures. Yikes! Had to cover the beds twice this week, but the good news is that everything made it through the chilly weather. Sheets making a surprise appearance:

Its a Fairy Tale!

June 8, 2015 By lpilewski

It is week 10 and I’m super excited! We have a tiny eggplant growing! How about that purple variegated little guy!

So, more veggies to pick this week! Giant ones at that! We’re picking in week 9 and our very first zucchini was a monster. I put it next to a jar of pasta sauce for reference:

In the Beginning

vegetables

Welcome! Follow along with me as I try gardening for the first time! My grandfather and mother are both amazing gardeners who could grow anything. Grapefruit, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, peppers, avocados, flowers, figs, mangoes, papayas – nothing seemed to wither on the vine.

Then there is me.  I’ve never had success with plants, but that is going to change this summer!  The picture above is what I see in my mind. I’m hoping that my kitchen counter will look like this. (OK, not the mushrooms, but you get the idea).

I intend to detail the journey here on a weekly basis. We’ll have to wait to see how my garden grows. Hope you stick around!
