Spring Sprouts

March 13, 2016 By lpilewski

Spring-like weather is helping the sprouts spring up! Arugula, mustards, radishes, spinach all coming up in nice, neat rows. Have to love that square foot garden planning!

More Week 2 – Plants!

April 11, 2015 By lpilewski

Now we can plant! But first, we’ve got to decide what to include in the garden. I’d gone to Lowes and bought a bunch of seed packets several weeks ago and I brought those out to figure out the garden plan. Tomatoes and peppers would be purchased as plants to give them a fair head start. Here’s the plan (I even used fancy graph paper!):

How will we do this?

OK – first decision made – I’m going to follow the Square Foot Gardening method as closely as possible.

This means that raised bed gardens will be the way to go. This eliminates having to till our clay soil, and ensures that the growing material will be ideal for vegetables. In the Beginning

Welcome! Follow along with me as I try gardening for the first time! My grandfather and mother are both amazing gardeners who could grow anything. Grapefruit, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, peppers, avocados, flowers, figs, mangoes, papayas – nothing seemed to wither on the vine.

Then there is me.  I’ve never had success with plants, but that is going to change this summer!  The picture above is what I see in my mind. I’m hoping that my kitchen counter will look like this. (OK, not the mushrooms, but you get the idea).

I intend to detail the journey here on a weekly basis. We’ll have to wait to see how my garden grows. Hope you stick around!
